Located in the street of the same name, As Janelas Verdes sits on the fringe of Lisbon’s historic Lapa area and the Santos design district, a short walk from the river front and a 5 minute tram ride from the downtown district.
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONAs you walk through the green doors of As Janelas Verdes, straight off the traditional cobbled street of the same name, you leave behind the bustle of modern day Lisbon and step back into a world where elegant ladies in long silk dresses would have alighted from horse-driven carriages helped by gentlemen with top hats and canes, and settled themselves to take tea in the plush interior. This 18th century mansion is said to have been home to one of Portugal’s major literary figures, the writer Eça de Queiroz, and the style of décor recreates the atmosphere he would have lived in, whilst incorporating the best of modern comforts. It is a truly romantic hotel with many charming details which will delight discerning guests.
Under its present ownership the hotel has been upgraded and extended to take in the adjoining building, and now offers a total of 29 charming and characterful rooms. On the ground floor there is a comfortable guest lounge and breakfast room, although in fine weather guests can enjoy breakfast on the secluded patio. The top floor boasts an impressive library whose spectacular terrace offers magnificent views over the city and the River Tagus – a delight on warm sunny days and balmy summer nights.
