Portugal is a small country, some 700km from north to south, and 300km at its widest point from the Atlantic Ocean on the west to the Spanish border on the east. Nonetheless, there is great diversity from one region to the next in terms of landscape, architecture, culture, people and cuisine. This provides an exciting context for the more adventurous traveller who wishes to become acquainted with the lesser-known aspects of this fascinating country.
